A documentary at TIFF’s Midnight Madness? Madness! Yet if there was to be a first in the genre of horror documentary, Morgan Spurlock’s latest film about our furry scavenger friends (frenemies?) might just qualify. Sometimes the horror lies in the shock of seeing scads of the creepy things scurry from out of a pile of stacked garbage bags on a NYC street corner. Sometimes it lies in the depictions of various exterminators killing the creatures in gory detail. But I think the scenes with the scientists demonstrating all the different parasites that the average rat contains was the most gruesome. Traveling all over the world it its quest to rat you out, this doc certainly accomplishes that, if nothing else!
